Yobs are No1 nightmare for tenants

TENANTS of Scotland's biggest landlord are more concerned about anti-social behaviour than any other issue.

That's according to a survey of almost 2500 residents by Glasgow Housing Association to gauge opinion on its progress over the past two years.

Although most said they were satisfied with services, a list of problems were flagged up.

Among the issues that caused most upset to tenants were: •Cleaning of common closes and deck access •Youth disorder •Noisy neighbours •Vandalism, graffiti and litter •Drug and alcohol abuse The chairwoman of GHA's board, Sandra Forsythe, promised more would be done to tackle anti-social behaviour on behalf of all 65,000 tenants.

She said: "We can't and won't be complacent.

"We will be looking at how we can further improve our services, particularly on the cleanliness of closes, back courts and common areas, and the general neighbourhood issues that continue to cause concern.

"GHA will continue to invest heavily in neighbourhood and environmental improvements across the city and to work in partnership with Glasgow City Council to improve the quality of life for our tenants."

The survey found 72% of tenants were satisfied with services - up 5% from 2004.

Three-quarters thought the organisation cared about their needs - almost double what it was when the last survey was carried out just over two years ago.

A fifth more were satisfied with GHA repairs than before, while confidence in future repairs and services was also up.

Ms Forsythe said the results showed GHA was improving services all the time.

She added: "The survey highlights a significant improvement in tenant satisfaction over the past two years.

"What is especially encouraging is that three out of four tenants say GHA cares about them."
